Formatted C: and re-installed Win98 on ACER Extensa 503 T. When I try to install the video driver NM2097 from ACER Homepage, I get the massage that the best driver would already be installed. The installed driver is 'Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)'. I set the monitor to 'Laptop Screen 800x600'. Result is that screen resolution is just 640 x 480 and that it cannot be changed (with the mouse) in the display setting. Had a higer resolution before. My impression is that I need a different driver which is not available at ACER's download center. Looking forward for help. br from Austria, Hans

Was this the one you downloaded?......

This self-extracting file contains the drivers for the NeoMagic video chipset for Windows 95 and Windows 98. Download this file to your hard drive, then click on e500vid.exe to install the drivers.

Keith, thanks for taking care.
I downloaded from

Driver Downloads
Acer Notebooks / Extensa 500
MS Windows 98 Driver
Video Driver for NM2097Filename is video.zip (252.297 Byte). If you unzip you find the following files:
Neomagic.dll (337.920 Byte)
Nmgc.inf (2.926 Byte)
Nmgcvp32.dll (35.840 Byte)
Nmgcvpm.drv (21.344 Byte)
Nmgczv.dll (33.792 Byte)
Nmgczv.drv (96.256 Byte)
Nmgczv.vxd (17.472 Byte)
readme.txt (359 Byte)
Vpmdd16.dll (4.176 Byte)
Vpmdd32.dll (24.576 Byte)'Readme' describes just the installation steps and does not contain any additional information.
I thought this would be the right driver, but it seems not to be. If your driver is the right one, where / how can I get it?
Once more, thanks a lot.

Hans,
Not sure if this is the right one but I found it here.........http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/html/e500_dl.html
After you have installed it, you may have to direct Windows to look for the drivers where they were installed.
Good luck.

Keith,
It is working. The problem was that the driver is not really going to be installed if you follow the instructions of the readme file. Applying the instructions, you get the message that the best driver would already be installed and it doesn’t install the new driver. Unfortunately, I had the impression that the new driver would have been installed, but it wasn’t. The problem is that Windows 98 doesn’t autoselect the driver even if you enter the destination A:\Drivers\Win98\VGA according to the instructions.
What I finally did is to manually select the driver via ‘show compatible models only’ (my OS is in German). Then the driver installation started and the screen resolution was as expected. Problem was the installation procedure, not the driver.
Thank you once more.
Hans
