UPDATE>>>>>

Yeah, works great. NO INFINATE LOOPS!!!!!!
I left my system on overnight and when I came back in the morning...no problem. Normally it would lock up in about 6 to 8 minutes of just sitting.

Thank you Ziggy Z

hi all - I've had this nv4_disp problem for a while now, but oddly enough - I only get this error when I try to SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM in win xp! Never in any 2d/3d app!
Anyway - I found this forum thread - read most of it, and it looks like they found a solution (for most of us) - check it out, I'm going to try it myself - http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=13&threadid=5474&STARTPAGE=1
It's about a small change in bios - agp driving value from auto to manual, and trying setting it to DA or BA.. well - read for yourselves.
I hope this helps (some of) you!

If your system is a Dell portable, download the latest BIOS for the system and the nVidia driver. This should resolve the problem.

I have an NVidia TNT2 M64/64 which just loathes Unreal Tournament and D2. I can get to the character select screen in D2 and my sys just has a hearty and restarts. Have tried Ziggy Z's idea and it had no effect. (Thanks for the idea though. Any other ideas would be graciously accepted. Latest NVidia 28.32 drivers are just as fuggin useless as my current ones. Please help as I am a total Diablo2 nut. Thanks all.

Just tried this fix, didn't help at all.
Perhaps others will have better luck, but I'm still stuck with a $2000 hunk of crap.

Hey All,

I had this problem and tried all sorts of things to fix it...Bios settings/updates, driver versions...etc. Turns out the video card was just defective. It worked sometimes, and certain driver versions seemed to help a bit, but when I replaced it with a new card my system worked fine and has ever since. I started with an ASUS 8440, then used an older Geforce 2 GTS card temporarily (no crashes), then upgraded to the ASUS 8460 (no crashes).

If none of these nv4_disp fixes are working for you, I'd look into replacing the video card.

replacing the video card, ummm, ive had my geforce 4 ti4600 for a while and it just started getting the nv4_disp errors this week. My other comp has been doing this for about 2 months. I'm so f---ing pissed off that i spend all this money and cant play a single game. I just want to know what is responsible for this problem. Is it the Nvidia drivers or windows xp, either way, why cant someone come out with a fix!
