Hello Everyone,
I have an old Toshiba Satellite 4030CDT laptop. I am Trying to get Windows 98 to boot from USB HDD with no internal HDD.
The USB HDD has a 4.01GB FAT32 partition and is loaded at boot through config.sys. Allocated on the laptop as C: drive (160GB 2.5" Portable HDD)
I Installed win98 on another machine using Virtual PC into a 4gb VHD image. Then Copied the files to USB HDD using WINIMAGE software.
When the laptop boots with USB HDD connected, WIN98 loads, SCANREG starts... and immediately fails to find the registry because it has disappeared from the drive.
Every time i boot the laptop it deletes the same 50MB (341 files) from the c:\windows directory of the USB drive, including the registry.
No other folders on the USB HDD have been effected like this. Why does this happen? :?

... looking @ the net spec's of your 300mhz machine built for 4GB drive... maybe the bios only see's 8GB - 32GB if @ all ??
... only guessing
Grrrr
"...pentathol makes you sing like a canary"
... got brain freeze
