i bought a external hdd.to setup it ask to format ntfs to fat16,fat32.i went into comand prompt but it wouldn't do it.do i have to do this to use my hdd and is there any software i need.thanx

Firstly, plug in the drive, then right click on My Computer and click Manage. Click on Disk Management (under Storage at the left). You should find the disk there. From here you can delete any existing partitions, create a new NTFS partition and then format it. You should then be able to use the drive.
