Update to an old post on this site:
Problem: two error dialog boxes at bootup: Cannot load the dll CnxtSdk.dll followed by:
The applicaton failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.
SOLUTION: add/remove programs uninstall "Digital Line Detect".
This happened after reloading and old Dell Latitude C840 Notebook PC from ~2003.
The website download patch is: C:\DELL\Drivers\R45749

Summary: Thanks for the reply The driver isn't accepting any cd's at all now I am going to buy a cleaner disk for the drive. If this doesn't work I may have to try system restore to when the drive was working....
