Hello,
I'm a newbie when it comes to tech support forums, but have owned computers for years.
My problem started two weeks ago, when a program I installed (Anno 1701) messed up my display, changing it from 1024x768 true color to an extremely ugly 640x480 sixteen colors. I got that problem taken care of; a friend worked on my computer for 2 days and finally got the display back to where it should be. Turns out (as well as I could discern his tech-speak) that Dell has my system (Dimension E520) set up to handle 2 monitors, and the program "turned on" the second (non-existant) monitor.
All was well, until I tried to run a program that had worked well until a few weeks ago (the game Rollercoaster Tycoon 3). On startup, RCT3 generated an error and became unreponsive. I also tried running a few other games with the same results. Scouring various forums, I tracked down DXDIAG, which showed me that Directdraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration, and AGP Texture Acceleration were Not Available. I did some searching, and am sure the problem is my video driver. I've tried installing the one from the Dell CD to no avail, so am wondering if someone can help me.
