DVD-RAM Firmware issue

I have a Panasonic LF-D311 DVDRAM/R drive and I made the mistake of trying to update the firmware for it. Suffice it to say I'll never do that again! While trying to do it, Windows froze up on me (yes, it can be done thru windows according to the instructions). Anyway, now, not even my BIOS sees any drive at all, and the firmware was on some 3rd party site and panasonic does not appear to have any official firmware releases i can find for this. Not that it would do any good anyway, as my BIOS will not even see the drive :( Any ideas, guys? Am i just SOL and out $315 :(
