Printer was running with WIN98, but system suffered lightening zap. Reloaded software and system no longer finds printer (either P&P or full search) or recognizes OEM drivers I have (WIN95 & WIN3.1). It seems OK otherwise.

Printer was recognized, OEM drivers worked, and printer does run on WIN95 system.

a) Is special driver required for WIN98?
b) Can someone provide a source?

Please reply to my e-mail

Thank you

The LBP460 only has win 3.x and Win95 drivers. Check with Canon support I got quick response when checking on Windows XP drives for the LBP460.
"The LBP-460 was manufactured to use Win3.1 and Win95 drivers (Windows Printing System) that were developed by Microsoft. Microsoft has not updated these drivers for any other operating system. However, so far, we have seen that most users have success using these drivers for Win98. Unfortunately, there are no drivers for WinME, Win2K, WinXP, or WinNT. I apologize greatly for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your interest in Canon.

Sincerely,

Angela

Dear Chris: After reading various news groups... it seems that there are a large number of consumers who are looking for printer drivers for the LBP 460. I am starting to write to them and asking them if they care to join in a class action lawsuit that I am forced to start now due to the negligence that Canon has performed.

Please forward this to your manger and let them know what is going on and how the consumer is viewing The Canon Company. I have decided to never again purchase a Canon product and I'm going to sell the photographic equipment that I do have and purchase Nikon equipment instead.

Best Regards,

Mark Fitzsimmons

Dear Mark Fitzsimmons,

Thank you for your inquiry. On behalf of Canon, we apologize for any
difficulties or inconveniences that you may have been experiencing with
your Canon product. Unfortunately, Canon does not have an exchange
program. The LBP-460 will have to be used in Windows 98 or 95. If you
upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 95 or 98, you may wish to uninstall
XP temporarily and use the old OS, until you are able obtain an XP
compatible printer. Canon cannot offer any type of trade in on the
printer.

Thank you for your interest in Canon. We look forward to assisting you
in the future.

Sincerely,

Chris
Product Support Representative

Canon,

Shame on you for not providing a driver for Windows XP. In the end you are the one who will have problems. None of my clients and friends will ever buy a canon printer in the future. This is not the way I ever hope to treat my clients.

Sincerely, Oliver Boekhoorn, Icicom, Holland

Hey,
I have put up with B.S. from Canon as well. While I know that technology is changing a lot it is ridiculous that Canon didn't make the printer compatible with 32bit OS's to begin with....what the heck were they thinking. And it's not like the printer is from the stone age.

Pro fixed - printer back on old system
a friend offered their spare Canon 8100 and guess what - not supported by xp
so at the moment taking floppies over to old system for printing or doing work on old system in the first place

will have to save up for another laser on XP

now to get the CD burner software to work

Had the same problem. I guess Canon wants to sell new printers and drop the old ones. However, my printer was only 6 months old when I switched to Win 2000. After 4 weeks of being "sweet talked" by Cannon support, I decided to switch permanently for HP product. Since I am also responsible for all printers in 4 companies, we did the same switch there. As long as Canon keep on treating us like this, forget them. It's a very ignorant way to treat customers and they will slowly loose market shares and wake up one day out of bussiness...

Thanks for the suggestion to use "HP Laserjet Series II" for Windows 2000, it worked perfectly. I don't know why Canon couldn't make this suggestion to me 3 weeks ago, thus saving me a huge headache! I even asked them for an alternate driver, but they said none existed. I was also able to use the Win95 driver on Win98.
