driver problems

I am trying to install a digital camera I have installed the software for it and when I come to install the driver the add new hardware wizard stops responding at the point where it searches for the windows driver. It finds the driver from the disc that came with the camera I click on it and click next and thats when the windows driver folder appears and it stops responding. I've tried re installing windows me and ive gone through the device manager and it shows the device to be there but with a yellow exclamation mark on it ,Ive clicked on properties and update driver and I just get back to the wizard and my origonal problem....please help
