I am running Windows XP Home Edition. My CD/DVD Driver is a NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A and my computer will not recognize the driver. It will not even show up in My Computer. I looked it up in my Device Manager and the the Driver Status says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device" I, of course, clicked that Troubleshoot button, but was no use, I did whatever it told me, and that did not fix my problem. I uninstalled the driver and had Add New Hardware to reinstall it, and that did not work. I have worked out that the problem may be the windows driver for the CD. I have another computer running XP professional. Would it fix the current problem (or create new problems) if I copied the driver file cdrom.sys from XP Pro to XP Home

No I have not updated the Motherboard Chipset Drivers. Would this also be via Windows XP or direct from the supplier of the Motherboard?

You should not need drivers to use the DVD. The computer should recognize it,if the jumpers are set properly on the back of the new drive. If it is running off of a seperate cable to the secondary channel on the mainboard the jumper needs to be set as MASTER, if it is running on the same cable as another CD or DVD or the hard drive the jumper must be set to SLAVE.
