I'm not good with this type of stuff. Ok so I had a virus I had to reformat everything..and my computer was built for me a couple of months ago so things are all mixed up. I have Windows XP, and NVIDIA. A bunch of things don't work like the sound..I don't know if thats driver related. But I tried installing The Sims 2 and it said about Direct X so i downloaded it and it still didn't work so then I downloaded a NVIDIA graphic driver that is suppose to be the latest one..and it says "The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." Any help would be good.

Download either Everest or Aida 32
They will tell you exactly what hardware you have then google for the MFG website and search for the drivers or try Drivers Guide
Post back if you need further help
