Hi

If your dvd device can read, its unlikely to be drivers hindering the games install. What brings you to the conclusion the driver is at fault? Error messages.

What sort of games/disc (I heard it reported some games are copy protected, and won't run on some devices -- how true this is, I don't know.)

Thanks for the reply

The driver isn't accepting any cd's at all now I am going to buy a cleaner disk for the drive. If this doesn't work I may have to try system restore to when the drive was working. errors (disk is not detected)
event veiwer errors (10_ERR_BAD_BLOCK) event ID 7
and (The device, %1, has a bad block)

One other thing I did have trouble downloading quicktime I had to remove the program and reinstall, I was warned that doing this can cause program failure could this have an effect on the driver?

Quicktime did reinstall correctly the second time.

The games are Barbie Princess Pauper (vivendi universal games) and The Polar Express (bluetongue Entertainment Ltd) both xmas presents for kids. Brand new

Hi

Ok a couple of things you could try. Its an interesting error.

Try reseating the dvd cable or replacing it with a new one.

Test the system memory

Then use a hard drive diagnostic to scan the drive. Generally a diagnostic can be found at the manufactures'website. If not try Ontrack's dataadvisor.
