driver for usb storage device

I have an old laptop computer (Dell latitude CPX) running Windows 98 which won't recognize any external hardrive or flash drives without first downloading a driver - any suggestions? (It is not hooked up to the internet so it cannot serach for an appropriate driver itself on-line)
Summary: hughsung - thanks for the post. I tried the mic without the software first and got what is described at top of this thread. Then as a last resort I installed the software from samson site - it didn't ...
