Intel HaM modem Problems

I have one 56K VOICE modem of two Ambient chipsets: MD5628D-L-B & MD1724T-11VC-B.

This modem usually connects at 115200bps in Windows98 though it is a 56k modem.

But its voice feature is very poor.
Though it is correctly detected by BitWare as an Ambient Voice modem, it can never record a call, while my other modem of Conexant chipset always records clear voices.

And in Windows XP, there was no driver, so I downloaded "ham412win2kxp.exe" from Intel's website, the installation of the Intel modem driver was very smooth, and in "Diagnostics -> Query Modem", the HaM modem was correctly identified.
Yet, when I dialed, it was slow in "Opening port", and finally failed in "Dialing 163", reporting "no dial tone", although the phone line was 100% good.

Anyone has suggestions on the above 2 problems?

Thanks

Intel/Ambient 5628 PCI 56k v.90 modem
Windows XP
After upgrading my modem, I have found this one a pain for gaming. Those of u who do game, u may know something about pings. When I use this one, it rockets and never sits still. Using a different modem and the same setup (even same speed) no problems occur. Also it sometimes hangs while dialing woith one continuse screeching noise. Not only that, but it sometimes stops responding while on the net.

Suggestions ?
