Comment: I reinstalled windwos 98 but now I have no sound coming from the speakers. At CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> DEVICE MANAGER, when I select to check on the sound drivers (I forgot the exact name) it tells me that it cannot load the device because it could not find the drivers NTKERN.VXD and MMDEVLDR.VXD, if I try to reinstall all sound drivers, it cannot find in the Win98 CD W98.cat and cm8338.sys.
I formatted the HD to do the installation, and eventhough I installed only the basics (no other drivers), I still cannot get the computer to play any sound. Does choosing option 1 when installing windwos 98 may create this problem? Thank you all for your help.

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem with an ALS4000 sound card. I downloaded 98_vxd.exe from www.driverguide.com. Install with this driver only, NOT THE WDM DRIVER that comes on the CD. This driver solved my problems.
