Strangest thing...
Clients computer, used P4 desktop, 1.25 Gigs RAM, Win XP (can't recall Home or Pro).
Anyway, went to add some periferals, specifically a wireless mouse/keyboard and Dell printer. The mouse/keyboard should not require drivers other than what Windows comes with, as the receiver acts as the real interface and the computer just recognizes a new mouse and keyboard. Well, come to find out Windows Driver cache appears to be empty. There is not a single driver in the list in Add Hardware. The mouse and keyboard set work fine, tried on another system, didn't need to install anything.
As for the Dell printer, I have the installation for that, but the installation software doesn't see the printer connected through USB, Windows does but I don't have an actual driver file, the installation file installs that so I can't do it manually, unless I can find the driver somewhere.
Anyway, how do I repair the Windows Driver Cache? Thanks smart people!

If it was my computer I'd do a repair install of XP. All updates and patches would have to be downloaded and reapplied though.

Not sure if it will work but running sfc with the appropriate windows cd might help.
Insert windows cd
start>run>sfc /scannow
