For some reason my DWL-520+ Adapter can no longer access the internet because it cannot find a driver called "wan miniport (atw)". This is on an older computer while this computer has the D-Link Router on it and it is testing fine.

From memory, I think you'll find you're trying to use 2 systems - Did you use XP's 'Network Setup Wizard' or 'Add Network Place'? If so, this may be your problem, A side effect of the setup is that it creates/connects a Network Bridge, which is not compatible with a router based network.

To check this, right click on My Network Places and select Properties. If you see a reference to the miniport WAN Bridge then this is probably the cause of the problem.

The cure: delete it.

Hope this helps
