dma enable?

i am trying to speed up my comp and i read that if i enable dma on my hard drive it will do the trick.Problem is, when i try to i get a message tellin me that enabling it could have an undesirable effect on my hard drive.Should i continue to enable or not? I have 64 megs on a pII400mzh, runnin win98

enabling dma uses the dma address to move data from sectors in ur hdd...
well it does the trick when u use software for video editing like adobe premiere when u need to capture a movie the comes in vast speed of 80-600mb per second(yap its possible). then u enable dma mode - otherwise it does nothing and sometimes things even goes slower... u dont need it actually - but dont worry , nothing will happen...
