Either help, or please explain guys!!!!

I've got a PCI Hercules Prophet 4500xt video card and a Creative Labs Audigy soundcard. I recently bought Dungeon Siege (game) which needs DX 8.1 Well, all well and good, so I installed it. NOW the video card (which worked well with games like Thief 2 in Direct x 8.0 flickers and the soundcard's acting up. What the hell does direct x 8.1 do that the slighly earlier version not do?

PS I run WIN ME

Tricky

I wish I could offer you a fix ? I have read some post that claim DirectX 8.1 does not work well with Windows Me. I have an ATI RADEON and ATI support said I should update my drivers for the Multi-Media center. When I read the specs for the driver update it requires DirectX 8.1 ! Thats where I stopped. I have read to many post like yours , where people have had problems with 8.1 . Even to the point of having to reinstall their O/S. That and the very confusing instructions for updating the driver , remove this file and that one , remove this registry key and that one , etc !
I decided to leave well enough alone. I prctically have to hire a technician , just to update a driver. Then to top it off if DirectX 8.1 gives you problems , there is no uninstall option ? Good Luck ,Nick
