All of a sudden, half of my desktop is solid white, in the other half I can still see 1/2 of my wallpaper. I did originally get the Active Desktop error message, but none of the recommendations solved the problem. The button to automatically fix it resulted in an error message, something about Windows Explorer.
The other users on this desktop do not have the same problem i.e. their desktops are fine.

BTW - I also have TweakUI installed, and also use NVIDIA [GEforce 6200

Thanks

Still the same, and thanks for the feedback.

I havea also updated the NVIDIA drivers, with no result.

THe only changes I made were to install the latest version of Mozilla a day or so before this happened.

... try system restore> start> programs> accessories> system tools> system restore

... select a date before the problem...

***********************************************************************
... I tend to use the method below:

... tap "F8" key @ boot-up select "safe mode" using arrow keys [press ENTER]

... once in safe mode click "no" on the "pop-up" that should guide you to system restore

... select a restore point by altering the restore calendar to a time when the pc was working fine.

Ok, two things have happened:

1) my desktop mysteriously, after several reboots, now came up looking normal. I almost suspect this is part of Microsoft trying to incorporate Vista into the fold - every time MS puts out a new OS, this stuff goes on . . . with no explanation from the mother ship.

2) thanks for the input on System Restore - I tried this, as I often have in the past, only to get a message saying 'it' was unable to restore the system, and all things are SNAFU'd as when I started. I am going to copy your way of doing it, maybe next time . . .

Thanks so much, mb
