Is there a way to double the speed with flash software? I had a Cirrus PCMCIA modem before that ran at 115K.

I just bought a sony vaio computer that has your modem, but the speed at which conects is terrable, the thing is I have allredy dawnloded the pach in Sony's web, but it did not get to max power.
Do you have any other Down load or something I cana use

I have PCG-FX405 Sony Vaio Notebook,
with Coenaxant-Ambit SoftK56 Data, Fax Modem
and Windows 2000.
I can not go more than 33.6kbps.Please help to solve the problem

I have a sony laptop.......I cannot connect any faster than 31 kps...can you help me increase my speed

Got a brand due Sony FX501 with this modem. Every other device I have will connect at 44+ but the Sony is often only 33. BUT disconnecting the powerpack - I got good speed when running on batteries. Seems the powerpack / laptop / modem combination introduces 50 hz on the line throttling back the speed. Design fault? Sony?
By the way don't expect much from Sony. They say it's in spec' !

I realize that amny of you are having trouble with the Conexant-Ambit modem, just as I am. My first mistake was in reformatting the hard drive of my new PCG-FXA32 the moment it arrived, because I did not want WinXP, however, I found that no drivers were available for the hardware that was included with the laptop. So I resorted to installing WinXP Pro, as I found that my System Recovery CD was not prepared properly, and therefore the second CD of the three CD set would not work. I found the proper driver for the modem only once, and am currently scouring the Internet looking for it again, since my most recent formatting (which I do once a year or so). If you can point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.
Now to help you out a little
My modem was working perfectly (when I had the driver), but it as well only connected at 33.6 Kbps, when I was lucky. That's because many ISPs skipped over K56 Flex. That's right, the OEM modem included with the Sony VAIO and other Sony laptops are K56 Flex, not industry standard 56K v.90. My ISP will support everything from a 14.4Kbps, the whole way up to the 56Kbps, but my modem is K56 Flex, and that little "Flex" causes some big problems. Since Flex didn't catch on as the industry standard, it only connects up to 33.6Kbps, and you really can't blame Sony for including this product, because they had a lot lying around once they realized it was worthless (like bell bottoms), and the advertising and fine print when you bought your machine should have said something about "52.1Kbps being the legal speed. Speed depends on ISP and condition of the lines." or something of that nature. Really, there's nothing you can do, except for find an ISP who invested in Flex, and sign up with them. Sorry, but I don't know of anyone who can fix this problem. (You could always fix the problem by purchasing a new modem for your PCMCIA slot from 3COM, they're really not that expensive, check them out at PriceWatch.

I also was one of the lucky ones to have purchased a Sony PCG-FX140 laptop. It came loaded with WinME and I could connect to the Internet at 49.3 kbps I recently upgraded to WinXP now I can only connect at 31.2 kbps I have searched the Internet over I have been unable to resolve my problem. If any one has discovered a cure please let me know.
Thanks!!!
