CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Driver (XP)

Some people have posted in the past with problems installing the CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Devise in win XP, but it wont let me post on their "old" threads so im posting a new one with a fix i have found :
If you are getting the error message "The data is invalid" try doing the following:
1) press start > Run and type regedit 2) goto the branch "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI" 3) You will see a list of entries in the format "VEN_XXXX". Open each of these and you will see a long number and "&", click on each of these and search for the one which has a "DeviceDesc" property which says something like "Audio Device" 4) Right click on the "VEN_XXXX" with the correct sub folder and select "permissions.." 5) Sellect allow "full control" and press ok 6) install the drivers (you can get them from the links above
ps. god only knows why you have to do this.. I found it out via a russian site (http://kt7.bugs.ru/data/driver.shtm#5)
