Subject: CD-ROM driver not working in w2kOS: windows 2000CPU/Ram: Pentium 4/128 |
Comment: I have an application that is very old dating back to the DOS age. The application access CD-ROM library by using the CD-ROM device name loaded at the time the driver is loaded in config.sys. The thing is, it doesn't work in NT or 2000 but works in 95 & 98. The string in the config.sys is device=cdrom.sys /d:mscd$$$$ When the application executes it doesn't look for the drive letter is look for the device name 'mscd$$$$' I put the same string from my config.sys into my config.nt file and it doesn't work. The device driver doesn't find the CD-ROM in 2000. I know why it doesn't work because 2000 doesn't release it's hardware it occupies. I've tried to uninstall the CD-ROM in 2000 and in hopes to install the DOS Driver again but doesn't work. This application is very important to us and the Company went belly up back in the late 90's and didn't many any windows version of this application. Any help would be great

Reply: (edit)Your pretty much out of luck, win nt and 2000 which is based on the win nt kernel is about as far away from DOS as you are going to get. It work in win 95 because it was still DOS based. Win 98 was the first step in spreading the gap from DOS to win based programming but still had to support some dos based programs. Time to spend 20$ and get a newer rom and install.
