My cd writer will not work. It lists in hardware devices but only as a cd-rom. When I try to use it it says device not accessible.
When I do a system check it says media not present.
Any idea on how to fix. Unable to locate seperate drivers for it. It is a phillips cdd4401/71 in a compaq system

Same problem here. IS dept stated this writter will not work in a compaq. Not sure why though. Good Luck.

I used this same writer in a Compaq Presario 5461 for at least a year.

I have the same CDRW with the same exact problem, worked great for a year and just quit last week. Doesn't show up anywhere, says recorder can not be found.

Just installed windows XP on my compaq which has a CDD4401 installed as well. Also same problem only cd-rom. Never had that problem with the OEM version of windows 98. No driver to be found on the net. Can anybody help us!!
