I have an acer aspire 5100, and my CD/DVD drive isn't working, but the trickier thing is that I can't find any sort of link to it. Under Computer, I have my C:, D:, etc, but the CD/DVD drive wasn't even there. Not exactly sure how to fix it!
Click start\settings\control panel. Click system and click on the hardware tab then the device manager button. From the drop down list, look under cd-dvd disks to see if anything is displayed. If so right click on the device and go to properties. Check and see if the driver is installed. If no device under cd-dvd disks, look down the list and see if an unknown has been found. It might be your disk drive. If no device is found either place the problem is probably a poor conection in your IDE or the power cables on the back of the drive or it might be that the drive has given up the ghost.
