I have just had to get a new computer, the old ones broken. My new system runs windows xp (home edition). Like you I have a canoscan d646u scanner and have emailed canon to hopefully recieve help on setting it up on my computer. When I recieve a reply I will place it here for you. Hi again, I have recieved an email from canon today. They say that the cd supplied with this scanner will work on windows xp. Just install as normal and when the error message appears, license not recognised or whatever just click install anyway. I have done this and am pleased to say it works fine. Good luck.
