cannot set 1280x1024 resolution

I have dell dimension 3000 with window xp home sp 2 and intel celeron cpu.Recently i am having a problem with its display.If i set any resolution other than 1280x768 the screen starts jumping vertically.I have a compaq p110 crt monitor with flat screen and intel(r)82865g graphics controller.I fail to comprehend the problem.any help is welcome.
