A friend of mine gave me an extra dvd drive he had. He just gave me the drive no cables and no software. Is it possible to change the cd drive I have on my aptiva 270 to the dvd drive he gave me? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

yes you can provided your hardware will support it. You should have sufficient RAM, both CPU and video to run your DVD. Of course it is a given that you have the DVD software, though the newer windows media player will support DVD (ver. 7.0 or later). There are also freeware winDVD software on the net free for the taking.
Enjoy.

yes. use the same cables that the cd has and don't forget to attach the sound cord. set the jumber on the back of dvd unit to the same as the cd is. if it slave then set to slave , if it is master then to master. even if you do not have software as yet , the cd part of dvd sould work just fine. mine did before i inslalled the dvd software.
