I get a message that says: choose driver when I attempt to write to a cd with my DVD RW DW-Q28A - The devise shows as disabled in the Control Panel hardware list. When I attempt to enable it a messages says that it cannot be enabled. Are drivers missing? What can I do?

"I get a message that says: choose driver"

Check again - are you certain it doesn't say "choose drive"?

You sure as heck can't use a device if it's disabled in Device Manager

Did it ever work?

jboy, thank you for the response, You are right. It say's Choose Drive. Not 'choose Driver' as I stated. I'm up in year's and struggle to keep up with all the new technology and especially solution's to thing's that I run up against occasionally.
I do know that I can't use a device that is listed as disabled. What I need to do is 'enable' it. And I don't know how to do that. Yes, it did work - I used it on one occasion. Any further info would be greatly appreciated. Thank's.

Sure - driver selection in Windows is automatic - a lot of folks post drive questions here out of... carelessness I suppose. By rights, you'd have been further ahead to post this in the Hardware forum. This one is fairly 'low traffic' (and not terribly successful)

"What I need to do is 'enable' it"

Yes, well, if Windows has disabled it, or won't allow it to be enabled, there must be a reason. Is there any other information listed under its properties (perhaps an explanation of why it's been disabled)?

One thing to try would be to remove the entry from Device Manager, reboot and allow Windows to refind and reinstall the drive - that helps in many cases, but much depends on why the drive was disabled in the first place

That's great, I'm glad you were able to get it working. That is a general Windows 'fix' and often (but not always) does the job.

... in fact, it's just a name, and boyhood was some time ago ; )

Thanks for posting back

I was trying to move some songs on to Nero when it lurched and now states wnasp132.dll is bad or missing and the program won't work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero to no avail. Is there a download available for this fix? I'm not wild about reloading XP again. Thanks
