i just built a new computer, but no hard drive. cuz i am gonna replace my old 1, which is 160GB hard drive. i have a question about this, before i replace the hard drive, do i need to reformat the whole hard drive? or is it ok to just plug it in. currently the hard drive is using SONY version winXP-which is came with my computer when i bought it. will this SONY winXP fit my new comp? or just for SONY computer? Thanks for your opinions.

If the XP cd is a recovery cd then it will not work on any comp but the one it was made for. I only have win98 so can not give you an answer on other question. It would be best if you repost the question in the XP forum.

Topframer is right. If it`s a normal Sony WindowsXP, you could do it BUT, you`ll have to reinstall all your new hardware since your hard drive still thinks you have all your old hardware. To make things all fresh and clean, i`d say format then put your hard drive into your new PC and then install XP.
