Hi,
I've got a Western Digital 20GB hard drive and I have it set to my master drive. I've formatted it and it's only in one partition. I've done a fresh install of windows and when I check the C: drive properties in my computer it only says it's capacity is 8GB?? How is this possible?

Could be a limitation of your BIOS. Does the BIOS see the entire size of the hard drive? What happens if you run fdisk and then create a second partition to try and use the remaining space?

I have the same thing and my bios is not upgradable, so Western digital has a disc that came with the hard drive that will overlay software to enable large hard drive capabilities. Works Great.. Sue, go to their web site for the updated disk

Enter your BIOS settings when the computer first starts up, then search around until you find hard drive parameters - should be in the first or second section - then set the drive mode to lba or maybe large, i forget...anyway the mode it's in right now only allows 8.3 gigs or so...if you want me to i'll check in further detail, just email me
