I recently put together a home-made system. My motherboard is a V503, the processor is a AMD K-2 300 running at 100 Mhz. I have a 6.4 Seagate drive. The problem is that after I installed 6.2 and put in win 3.1, I get an error than the xms drivers are not loaded and I cannot load win3.1. I need help.

Hi,

I'm not sure, but sometimes Himem.sys can't recognize the type of motherboard automatically and as a result can't handle XMS memory properly. In that case you need to add /MACHINE:XXX switch to Himem.sys line in Config.sys file and point your computer type directly. Instead of XXX you can use numbers (from 1 to 17) or special codes. For more information type HELP at the DOS prompt and look for Himem.sys.

Good luck, Igor M

My parents new computer gets that same error when they try to go to SAFE MODE. They have a Celeron 400, 64 MB of RAM and run Windows 98. Any thoughts on what that could be?? Please drop me an email.
