Hi,
I am trying to attempt the following:
1. I am running FDISK from the Windows 95 Startup Diskette.
2. In FDISK, There is a primary DOS partition.
3. I delete the DOS Partition with no trouble.
4. I then try to "Create" a new Primary DOS partition, I get the following error -->
"Verifying Drive Integrity ---> Completed 19%
Write Protect error writing fixed disk"
5. I am then instructed to ESC and reboot.6. Once I reboot, I then try to do a FORMAT C: from the "A:" drive.
7. It comes back with the following:
Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable.
Format Terminated.--------------------
My question is: How do I "Un-Write Protect my Hard Disk, so I can "re-partition" & "re-format" it???
Thanks in advance for all the help....
Sincerely,
Ken J. Brose
P.S. I even tried this procedure using MS-DOS 7.1 and got the same results...

Hi
Looks like an Phisical domage on HD Drive.Trie to make a low level Format from the BIOS
after trie again with fdiskRegards Francis

Take a look at the drive with delpart. (It's a Microsoft product.)
http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu/download/MSSTUFF/delpart.exe
It'll remove pretty well any non-dos or hidden partitions. Once it's verified that there are no partitions on the drive, re-try fdisk, and maybe with another known good floppy just in case.

Some pcs that have (possibly) been used on a network (or wherever) in the past have a security feature relating to the hard disk that gives rise to this problem.
The way around it is to remove any reference to this protection in the BIOS, although it may not be in the bios, only on the HD.
Then do a low level format using PC-CHECK or whatever then FDISK followed by a normal format.
Good luck!

Some SCSI hard drives have a write protect jumper, but I don't think this would let you do 19% of a format.
