I'd appreciate any advice about installing Win95 over DOS 6.1. I have the W95 CD, but the only executable that seems to be the setup is setup32.exe (in the Win95 directory on the CD). This doesn't run - and I tried this with 3 separate W95 CD's. Help! Any suggestions?

I think you need to install any version of windows from win 3.0 to win 3.11 to install win 95 or 98. I dont think you can install a win 95 upgrade from dos. You need the full 95 version if you want to start fresh.

You absoulutely need a microsoft dos to install any windows application. IBM dos is exteremely obsoulete.

Thats a load of rubbish.
IBM PC-DOS 6.1 is compatable with MS-DOS 6x and MS Windows 95
IBM have in fact released a new version (To replace v7) IBM PC-DOS 2000 which along with DR-DOS 7.03 are the only true Y2K versions of DOS MS-DOS has a minor error in the DATE Command (Part of Command.Com) and a date fault in the Backup Utility.
Windows 95 will install over PC-DOS & DR-DOS but only with Windows 3.1x installed, and that you use a upgrade version of Windows.
In fact with DR-DOS 7.03 you can install it over Windows 95 (Come On Microsoft Update or Replace MS-DOS 6.22 with a fully compliant 16bit DOS (Before anyone says MS-DOS 7 forget it, it is not intended for 16bit use)
