Ok. So I'm fiddling with one of my older computers, it had windows 98 on it, but I formatted and put DOS 6.22 on there. No problems, got everything set up nicely. Sound card works and everything. But something wierd is up with the video.

In Dos and windows 3.11, everything works fine, everything looks normal, but when I go in to a game (Doom, Descent) the graphics go absolutely crazy - fluro colours, wierd colour patterns etc. the game plays smoothly and everything, just the colours are all buggered up :( I did some exploring inside the case, and it's wierd, it looks like it's actually running of a PCI video card! Is that normal for a computer of this era? Will I need some drivers for it (I think it is some kind of Cirrus Logic card), or possibly put something in config.sys to help me get this figured out. I really wanna play descent :)

Please help!!

I've discovered that the video card is a Cirrus Logic CL-5430 PCI 1 MB Video card. I downloaded some drivers from driverguide, but they didn't seem to help at all. In the diagnostic I can see resolutions all the way up to 1280x1024, but it still didn't help the games. Also It's wierd, the video bios doesn't display any information in the POST. The screen remains blank for a few seconds, then the Ram and etc. is tested.

Please help!

PCI cards were introduced on 486 PC's, games like DOOM etc should have no problem with this card as it is VESA compatible.

Go to:

http://www.scitechsoft.com/products/ent/free_titles.html

and download UNIVBE 6.7, install and then run the diagnostic check, if the graphics card is OK you can run this software prior to running games as it is supposed to enhance graphic performance. If this works then try the later Disply Doctor 6.53 DOS as it has more features. Hope this helps!

It didn't help!! I'm still having problems with Doom and Descent. I've tried three other games, Commander Keen 1, and Duke Nukem 2, which both worked fine, and Duke Nukem 3D, which had the same problem as Doom and Descent.

Please help me if you can!!
