Subject: Who likes dos?
Comment:

I am going to update dos with many of the dos
community applications available which seem to be superior to the current dos applications available. Eventually releasing it free on a website with its own name. If anyone is interested in being a part of it
or taking on a hobbie project, drop me a line...

As stated last time. Which Core Files will you use? What makes you think you can do better than MS-DOS, PC-DOD, DR-DOS, ROM-DOS or any of the other DOSs? Which Copyrights will you infringe? I lot to think about here!

Dos is ok and I rather use it than winders, but to compete realisticly with winsnore it needs to be 32 bit, support fat 32, support scanners, cd burners, usb, stable web broswer and so on. Does your project address any of these issues?

Ken, were working on writing the core files, in c++ and inline assembly. As for copyrights
were going to have tackle those issues as they surface. What makes me think it will be
better, it probably won't but its a good a
project as any...
Ken, Ronin and Austin email me with your emails so I can contact you. The project will address those issues if you can address them.
I'll send you a specification which I'm writing...

DOS is the only operating system whose main object was to do work. I do not know how far into the DOS files you intend to go, but if you reprogram the copy command with an eye to copyrighting, I have always wished for a switch in COPY that meant copy all after a file name. Say you fill a floppy.
You then need to continue at some file on down the directory. I also wish HIMEM.SYS recognized all the system memory and that RAMDRIVE.SYS could create drives larger than 32 Megabytes.
Fred6008@earthlink.net is my E-mail address. I won't be any programming help, but I have lots of suggestions for improving DOS.

As a Computer Information Studies student at DeVry, I have had some experience writing VB and C code. Even though I seem to have less experience than you guys, I would like to be included in these project.

I like DOS, still use MS-DOS 5 and 6.22, had tried FreeDOS and DR-DOS, and worked with NTFS-DOS.

About the copyrights issue, don't forget patents. Besides THERE IS always a way around them. First get the date they were issued and calculate when THEY EXPIRE. Most copyrights and patents are subject to public domain laws.

Then we can sell it to Microsoft and call it Windows.

But see what you can do about Multitasking and making it able to better use the Coventional memory

Guys - Wait a while. Before you create SuperDOS here. KEEP IT BASIC Before you know it you are just making problems! Go for a workable DOS Shell (i.e. IO.SYS DOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM) make it compatable with MS-DOS Open a Project Site and invite others to share ideas or create modules for you. I for one will look in! DO NOT try to be all things to all users..

Tony, I like TechGuy's idea of a site. If you have or start a page, post the URL.

By the way TechGuy, SuperDOS is a cool name for Tony's project.
