Comment: Pursuant to the terms of computing.net and its forum policies, this is an open request to buy an original MS-DOS 3.00 OEM disk set (and included manuals ideally) with the understanding it is a legal and transferable use. I am a researcher who has looked for this version for two years without success. As someone who has known about this forum for some time, I have refrained from posting this out of respect for the concept that this is a support forum, not a message board per se. However I am running out of search options, and this is one of those times I need to be creative, so please understand. I am prepared to financially compensate the party who can produce this specific MS-DOS version with a large reward. Please contact me directly by email. Thank you. bhardy@sbcglobal.net

Reply: (edit)I am more curious as to why you want that exact version of DOS. (MS DOS 3.00 OEM, not MS DOS 3.00 retail or PC DOS 3.00 from IBM) The 3.00 version was so full of bugs that anyone in their right mind would have upgraded to DOS 3.30. And the OEM versions were usually customized for/by system vendors for their specific hardware. The only reason I can think of is that you have some old custom machine that needs to have one or two of its DOS modules replaced. Depending on the module, one from the retail or PC DOS might just work as well. But then the documentation part?? DOS 3.00 release was timed to match the release of the first IBM AT system (80286) and was very quickly followed by the 3.10 version as a bug fix (6 months). Microsoft sold its retail version. But the only OEM vendor with much of a requirement to have the 3.00 version was Compaq, so you are really looking for the OEM version shipped with an early Compaq 80286.
