Reply: (edit)When you use DOS the command prompt is just the area of the scree where you write your commands. The prompt looks like: C:\>

Reply: (edit)The last 'real' version of MS-DOS was 6.22 or you can extarct MS-DOS 7x from Windoze 95 or 98 if you have a mind to. But for everyday usage 6.22 is fine. Search the posts here for a URL to download it (Its listed more than once)

Reply: (edit)If you want a true dos, with multitasking abilities, get yourself DR-Dos. It`s 100% compatible with ms-dos. And best of all -> It`s free. www.DRdos.com good luck!

Reply: (edit)1) does someone know what is the command prompt is there any difference between the MS-DOS and Command prompt ? When you use the command prompt via the Start Menu (Start->Programs->Command Prompt), you are opening a dos shell. This means you are accessing the dos command line, but Windows is still in memory and controlling your computer. This is different than booting your computer directly to dos, when you do this Windows is not loaded. Most commands will work fine whether in dos or the dos shell, but some things cannot or should not be done when in the shell.

Reply: (edit)The Dos prompt in Dos mode is in real mode, and the command prompt in windows is the same Dos prompt but in protected mode. I hope this explains.
