what am i doing wrong here

hi everyone.. ok now i have a pc and a laptop and a small network to conect them together via cat5 crossover cable. all works fine i can access shaired internet and the printer and the documents and so on but wen i try to shut down the pc via my laptop in MS DOS with the ''shutdown -m \\ computername -s '' command i get a access is denied ? i dont understand y please help thanks stephen161 uk

Sounds more like a networking or XP question - XP "DOS" is an emulation.

Looks to me like you're not logged in to xp as admin...i might be way off, but it seems to me remote shutdown of an nt machine isn't allowed except for administrator logins..so how are you logging into the xp machine?

Install VNC and you will be able to get to the other machines desktop and execute shutdown.
