Comment:

I have been trying to make a Dos related boot disk to run Warcraft II cause Warcraft II don't run at all in WinXP. So I have success for the most part of creating a boot disk type system to run WarcraftII. Warcraft II works just fine with everything related the problem inside of the Windows DOS Mode.

Although the problem is that when I try to have warcraft II detect the music driver in its "setup.exe" after I have initalized the sound it locks the computer hard like the mouse don't move after doing such.

I have a Sound Blaster PCI 128 Model CT4700 Sound Card that I am using with this. I am pretty darn sure that I have everything setup properly with it. I was wondering if any of you would know what might cause a lock up like that, it auto detects "Soundscape" as the music driver, but get this it I tested it and it works just fine for in the game for digital, but don't work for the music driver figure that one out.

So for this sound card is there a speical way to intialize the music in actual DOS mode?

Thanks Tons Brady appricate any help :)

Okay let me re-explain the problem much easier...
The main problem is that I can't get the music to work in a DOS Boot Disk Mode for Warcraft II and it locks the computer hard.

Does that help?

What is DOS Boot Disk Mode ????

If you are booting from a floppy then you are running an operating system, period.

What version of MS-DOS or WinDOS etcetc are you using and where is the warcraft software directory C: drive ?

FAT32/LFN a not supported by most 'MS-DOS and compatables, neither is NTFS.

Maybe go back to the XP forum and search out DOSBOX Emulator for DOS Software ??

Franki is correct, your best bet would be to use DOSBOX. I have never used it but I hear it is free and works great.

Please answer:

1. What version of DOS is on your DOS boot disk?

2. Where is your Warcraft software - on floppy disk, CD or HDD?

3. Is your XP HDD formatted with NTFS?

4. What do you mean by Windows DOS mode ?

5. What do you mean by Warcraft II works just fine with everything related the problem ?

I have already tried DOSBOX. I think someone else recommended that I try that. So I tried that DOSBOX when I had WinXp on the computer it ran Warcraft II so slow that I was better off with a different solution.

Answer to Dos Boot Disk mode question:
I currently have Windows 98 Second Edition (Win98SE), on the main Hard Disk, but the problem is not in Win98SE or Windows XP that I want help with. The problem happens after boot using the boot disk, then load up Warcraft II then run the setup then choose a music driver that's when it locks hard.
Do you understand what I am saying there or I am talking up a tree again?

Answer #1 and Version question: After booting with the BootDisk, then typing ‘ver’ at the command prompt it says something to the point of: Windows 98 [4.10.2222]

Answer #2: The path is D:\War2 on the Hard Disk Drive

Answer #3: I don't have Windows XP on the computer currently, but I was trying to get Warcraft II to work with Windows XP originally that's why I made some comments about Windows XP.

Answer #4: Yes that is confusing. I mean running Warcraft II inside of Windows 98 Second Edition (Win98SE). There are no problems with the music when running Warcraft II from Win98SE.

Answer #5: I mean that Warcraft II works just fine with everything related to the problem when running inside of Win98SE. I missed some information there...I already had it sent before I noticed.

I'm still puzzled by your phrase "with everything related to the problem", but I have a rough idea of your problem:

You want to use a DOS boot disk (actually a Windows 98 startup disk) and boot to a DOS prompt. From there you want to run WarCraft II, which is located on a FAT32 logical drive D.

I think the reason you have no sound is that in Win 98, drivers are loaded in a different way (without the use of AUTOEXEC.BAT/CONFIG.SYS). But since you are are booting directly to DOS, sound drivers are not loaded.

But there is hope, since you have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster card. Look at this to set up sound using the BLASTER statement and loading drivers. Good news is that your PCI card is mentioned in this ref! :)
