Does any one know ii it possible to get a version of the PING command that can be used DOS. When I try to run the command from my PC (running in DOS mode) I get the message "This program can only be run in Windows" or something like that. I need to use the command to eliminate a network problem on my PC.

Thanks in advance

You probably need a copy of ping from "real" DOS. DOS mode in Windows isn't really DOS. Here's a link to DOS commands:

Thanks for the help. I went to computerhope.com but although it was helpful there was no mention of where I could download the PING version for DOS (if there is such a file). Also I have restarted the computer in MS-DOS mode, and typed PING and get the message "This Program can not be run in dos mode".
Any more help would be gratefully received

That's because you're not in "real" DOS. I'll see if I can locate a copy of DOS ping and I'll try it here. If it works, I can e-mail it to you.

If you want to use PING in pure DOS, then apart from the DOS version of PING, you also need to load the correct DOS netcard driver, usually the packet driver which is corresponding to your network adapter.

I have just uploaded PING for DOS, so you can give it a try:

Wengier,

Thanks for posting ping.exe on your web site. Do you have an example of a config file or the format it should use? It first looks for a config file then tries DHCP, which we are not using in this case. I am not able to run it as it is.

Thanks,
