Old Sound Blaster software installed in DOS and there was a PLAY.exe command that would play .WAV files. When you install in Windows, the sound card normally does not work in DOS as far as I know.

I have found a number of DOS CD players, both on the web and on old computer systems. You'll need one of these to play CD's in DOS, Of course, you might also need a DOS mixer to adjust the sound card volume, or use the CD's headphone jack.

Right now, a web search yielded about 20 sources.
