Hello

I want to use USB Flash drive(Memory stick)instead of Floppy Drive as media for data storage & as data carrier.
I did tried to use available USB drivers for DOS as USBASPI.SYS DI1000DD.SYS to detect my USB stick
So ok by using these driver my USB stick does get detected and i can carry out file transfer operation between USB stick & harddisk.
But once i unplug my USB stick to copy data from another pc & again replug it to same pc then it doesn't recognise. What i have to do is that i have to reboot my pc then it detect's attached USB stick.

So are there any drivers by which i can use my USB stick freely as plug and play in DOS as floppy or as we use USB stick in windows. So that i don't have to reboot my PC.

I don't think DOS will allow hot-plugging of USB.

Maybe somebody here knows better.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

M2 is correct. Hot-swapping is usually a Windows/Mac/Linux k2.2+ exclusive...

The secret is to unload the USB drivers
and then reload them again when you plug
your stick back in.
Most of the usbaspi.sys drivers won't
unload and of course not all of them work
either. The early Panasonic works best
for me. Try the batch file in USB.ZIP
at: www.urlfly.com/te
That's my solution...

This works for DOS 6.22 - If you're running something else, you may have to tweak it.
Also, you'll probably want to "rem" out the last line. The first time I access MY drive, I get an "abort, fail, retry" message. That line saves me having to type retry. (You don't want that drive letter anyway)

Ahhh yes, DUSE4
Wont run in protected mode and eats up
180K of conventional memory. Sooo, when
you're through playing with it, you have
to reboot anyway.
Doesn't sound like much of an improvement.

I have just installed the two drivers on my pc for use with the USB Flash drive(Memory stick) instead of Floppy Drive as media for data storage & as data carrier, and am coming up with an err. I am ONLY running MSDOS. No widows stuff at all. This is on a custom CNC control that all the programs run under DOS.

My err is when I try to go to the D: directory I get an err saying (Invalid media type Reading drive D:)

This is what I see on the screen when starting up:

ASPI for UHCI/OHCI USB mass-storage Version 1.07

Controller : UHCT VID1106_PID3088
Base I/O : C400H
Base Memory : 00000h
VID0D7D-PID16000FS
ID : 0 LUN : 0 – USB Disk20X PMAP

Available ID = 0
ID 0 HD.. USB Disk20X
#1: PRI DOS 124 MB Drive = D:

This is what I have in my CONFIG.SYS file:
DEVICE = USBASPI.SYS/v
DEVICE = DI1000DD.SYS
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,
Does it also also ask you to "Abort, Retry, Fail?"
If so, simply type an r and you should be good to go.
