I need help on how to get my USB hewlett packard 8200 series cd rom/writer to work on dos. I tried nearly everything and still no go. I even tried what madmax wrote using the usbaspi.sys but i keep getting a message "Target usb not found" or something similar to that. Please if anyone can please take me through it to get this working since i'm really bad at dos and don't know what else to do.

Does it work in Windows xx ? ie has USB been enabled in BIOS? Is it LapTop or Desktop? Using Ghost/Iomega?
Have you tried other drivers??
Experimentation is the key to success!!

Let's start from the beginning:
1. Does your USB HP 8200 CDRW work in your same PC running Windows?
1.1. NO
1.1.1. Check Windows version and support for USB
1.1.2. Check USB ports if enabled and functional
1.1.3. Check HP 8200 if functional on any other PC with USB support
1.2. YES - proceed to 2.2. Check for compatibility
2.1. What kind of USB ports do you have on your PC & CDRW? _____ USBASPI.SYS supports USB 1.x and USB 2.0
2.2. What interface? _____ USBASPI.SYS works on many onboard, PCI and some Cardbus PCI host adapters
2.3. What chipset was used? _____
USBASPI.SYS supports most implementations from NEC, Intel, VIA etc...Do post what USBASPI.SYS /V /W reports if you are sure that it is running in Windows fine.

Hi Alex,
I have tested external box usb 2 with a recorder samsung 52x/24x/52x but I have small problems for connected this to a Desktop or Notebook, due to a problem of feeding and supply of my external box. But sometimes it works very well. I have this lines on "Config.sys" :
device=usbaspi.sys /v of Panasonic version 2.06
device=usbcd.sys /D:mscd001 of Panasonic version 1.00and on "Autoexec.bat" this line :
mscdex.exe /D:MSCD001 /L:E /M:30
Enjoy!!!

I'm trying to do pretty much the same thing. It's a laptop, an old Gateway Solo. The drive works fine elsewhere, and usbaspi.sys is giving me the following details in verbose mode.
Controller: 00-07-2 VID=8086h PID=7112h (0000h-0000h) UHCI
: I/O=FCE0h-FCFFh
USB Device: HOST [00-07- VID=2 VID=8086h PID=7112h (0000h-0000h) UHCI]
: |--VID=03f0h PID=0207h FS
: ^--nothing
ERROR : Target USB device not foundThis is pretty much greek to me. Can anybody help? The HP 8200 is powered on and attached, with a disk in, but it's just not seeing it. Please help. Please!

AjOS
Am interpreting for you:
> Controller: 00-07-2 VID=8086h PID=7112h (0000h-0000h) UHCI
> : I/O=FCE0h-FCFFhThe driver found a USB 1.1 controller (UHCI) running off an Intel chipset (8086) and it is I/O mapped (I/O=FCE0h-FCFFh).
> USB Device: HOST [00-07- VID=2 VID=8086h PID=7112h (0000h-0000h) UHCI]
> : |--VID=03f0h PID=0207h FSA USB device was found - it is an HP (VID=03f0h) CD-Writer Plus 8200e (PID=0207h) and it is detected to be able to run at up to 12 Mbps USB Full Speed (FS}
> : ^--nothing
That's all she found
> ERROR : Target USB device not found
This is strange - if my identifiers above are correct, then the HP CDW+ 8200e should have been mapped to an ASPI device. Can you check if there are any firmware updates relevant for your device?
HTH
