I have an external USB Harddrive that I can't get to work in DOS. Does anyone know of driver written for DOS that will activate the USB port?

How about using the windows 98 start-up disk? Can you use it to load usb drivers? If so how?

You will be very lucky indeed to find a DOS USB Driver. That is not to say it is impossible! (Lonestrike please note) only that developers do not feel that there is any interest in it. I have heard of one DOS USB Driver being for sale at about $60, but cannot remember when or wher, or even if it works.

The Windows 98/Me Startup Disks will not enable your drive. Have you tried looking at the drive manufactures web site?

Of course USB works in DOS!
You just need a USB driver.
The specifications for it exist,
but it seems not many drivers
for it have been written yet.

(Another one to the list of grabbing hands)

If anyone does happen to have a DOS USB driver can they please e-mail it to me at: where_is_my_tree@yahoo.co.uk

And also, if you have any way of mapping the USB interface to ATAPI (to use a USB CD-ROM in DOS), please also e-mail it to me!

Thanks, Adam

Yes, CATC do have a USB DOS driver but it is targetted at high volume PC manufacturers and costs $1000 per license.

Just to save any of you wasting time contacting CATC about it for individual use.

According to Ghost 2002(which runs on dos), it appears to already provide USB support.

Dont know if this means external hard drives though.

To the best of my knowledge, Ghost 2002 will support a special USB cable between two PCs and act in a manner similar to a Laplink parallel cable or crossover Network cable to image from one PC to another. They do not however support the ability to image from one IDE drive to a USB connected drive in the same PC.
There must be a way to do what all of want to do. Iomega has the Guest.exe program that gives a drive letter to a SCSI connected external JAZ drive so you can Ghost an image file to a JAZ drive. I don't believe they have a similar driver for their external USB drive...

I am also looking for DOS driver for USB access to a HD. Here goes my my suggestion: Is there any fine programmer who may develop a driver of the kind and put it, I do not mean for free, but in a shareware (or cakeware, or wineware, or anything like that) basis for a moderate price?
