I have been trying to create a Booting USB Flash Drive. I have been ale to get everything running but after I run the USBASPI.SYS I am not longer able to boot from the Flash Drive. I get the error of unable to locate the Command.Com. If I run the boot drive with the USBASPI.SYS line rem out then it will work just fine.
My Current Config.sys File
lastdrive=z
files=10
buffers=10
dos=high,umb
stacks=9,256
device=himem.sys /testmem:off
device=btdosm.sys
device=flashpt.sys
device=aspi2dos.sys
device=aspi8dos.sys
device=aspi4dos.sys
device=aspi8u2.sys
devicehigh=ramdrive.sys /E 2048
device=USBASPI.SYS /v /w /norst
device=Di1000dd.SYS /dC

I hope someone will be able to help. Thanks for any advice or help.

If you have a BIOS with a boot from USB option then USBASPI is irrellevent.

USBASPI is a USB driver for the USB ports under *-DOS, if the BIOS supports USB booting, it will emulate an IDE drive as far as *-DOS is concerned. All that is needed is for the USB drive to be SYSed to make it bootable:

I agree but when trying it without the USBASPI running I am unable to use an USB HDD also. So since the USBASPI would resolve that problem I need to get it working this way. I am unfortunately stuck in trying to resolve it from this point.

Thanks for your information.

This is confusing, are you saying that YES the Flash Drive does Boot, but another USB device will not, when booted of the flash drive ??

If so that may be the problem as USBASPI installs the drivers for all USB Controllers, obviously the BIOS has already enumerated them them..

As asked the PC does support USB Booting using a flash drive. When I use the basic booting using a WIN98 style the pc does boot up but when I try and access an external USB HDD it list no known device.

SO to recap everything:
PC does support USB Flash Drive Booting.
I am able to boot off a USB Flash Drive but I am unable to use a USB External HDD at the same time. Yes I do have the both hooked up tot he PC when booting up.

I am trying to use the USBASPI.SYS to resolve the issue and it does seem to work but after wards it is no longer able to find a bootable device and fails.

I have already posted what my config.sys file looks like so somewhere in there is the problem. I am just unable to make the jumps to the correct solution.

Thank you all for you time and input.

You need to ask a USB Developer ?? as I am not 100% certain.............

"booting using a WIN98" so you are not using MS-DOS but Windows ?

In all truth you would be better looking at a Linux Solution like Damn Small Linux.

DOS USB has not really been ongoing developed for at least 5 years, as like W9x it is obsolete..

I am saying that I used a Win98 bootdisk to make the image I have used to make the USB Flash Drive Bootable. I am using it so basicly that after startup I am at a DOS prompt.
Thanks.

The problem may be , this entry in config.sys
"device=Di1000dd.SYS /dC" . See what happens if you do not use the switch /d "assign drive letters" .

Does USBASPI list both usb devices, when it loads ?
