2 problems. First is will dos recognize an ntfs drive? 2nd is that when using the usbaspi.sys /e driver I keep getting an invalid parameter message. config sys is as follows:
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS /testmem:off
DOS=HIGH,UMB
LASTDRIVE=Z
devicehigh=usbaspi.sys /e
devicehigh=DI1000DD.sys

DOS (the Operating System) will not recognize NTFS, although there is a reader that will allow limited access to such a drive

What version of DOS are you using?

Do you know for sure that the 'invalid parameter' message is generated by a line in config.sys? Are you also running an autoexec.bat? If you are uncertain, check with step-by-step-confirmation on startup to identify the troublesome line.

'Devicehigh' and 'DOS=UMB' are somewhat meaningless without EMM386.exe or similar memory manager installed - although that shouldn't cause an error.

Confusion reigns

Yes it is definetly being caused by that line. I am running step-bystep confirmation and it is showing up before the autoexec.bat. The dos is a w98 startup disk with non essentials removed

Ok - well, I don't know then. Not too familiar with that setup, although the ' /e' switch appears to be a valid parameter.

Unless there's a typo, or some stray characters way down at the end of a line (not readily visible from your editor), I don't see where the error comes from.

My USBASPI.SYS *also* showed /e as an 'invalid parameter'...in fact it doesn't even recognize i've got a usb card at all (i tried all the paramaters too)...it's the USBASPI.SYS from the MHaraidu archive...
Is there a different USB dos driver that might work...it's a 1.1 card in that particuar machine...?

The USBASPI.SYS included in the MHairu archive is actually for USB 1.x only, and does not support the /e parameter (which is supposed to select enhanced USB mode only) for USB 2.0 drivers.
