i installed DOS 7.1 on top of windows 98. i think i made some wrong choices when the installer program asked me some preferences. So I couldnt load windows 98. So what i did was delete the dos 7.1 folder. which enabled me to load win 98, How do i clean my computer of the dos 7.1 files and how do i get things back to normal pre dos 7.1?

For pity's sake, what made you do that?
Windows 98 includes the DOS7.1 command set.
'Back to normal'? What do you mean?
You can probably dispense with the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, since that would be where additional DOS drivers & applications would load. Delete, rename or else disable with msconfig.
I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.

yes pls. pity me,
before windows loads command lines appear, when DOS 7.1 was still operational it said welcome to dos 7.1, loading whatever, locking disks, but now it say bad command or file name. How do i remove that? how do i remove dos 7.1 files? and now my SB Live doesnt work, it has trouble with emm 386 something
i know i sound dumb, thats because i am, sorry, but i need help
help me

Undertake an over-the-top reinstall of Windows................
Not really a MS DOS forum question, but what the heck above you we had Windows XP question answered, extremely sad and boring!

I generally reserve any feelings of pity I may have for those who suffer misfortune - geniuses who shoot themselves in the foot... not so much.
It's difficult for me to envision all of the consequences of installing one Operating System overtop of another - as has been mentioned, DOS loads most of its startup files from autoexec.bat & config.sys, so that would be the place to start. You may want to examine MSDOS.SYS as well
Else, chalk it up to misadventure or 'User Error' & start over, as suggested.
I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.
