Comment: I recently set up a dos computer to do some old-school mode 0x13 graphics programming etc. I have a windows pc to surf the net, all I really want to do is be able to easily transfer files to and from my dos computer. I have a Realtek 8139d pci network card. I have drivers for it, but not packet drivers, which is what arachne needs. Do I need them to do any file transferring? Am I out of luck?

Reply: (edit)Internet Connection and File and Print Sharing are two seperate issues for DOS: Internet Connection with Arachne uses Packet drivers and if you go to www.realtek.com.tw and download the OEM driver package ( ftp://152.104.125.40/cn/nic/rtl8139abcd8130810xseries/oem-8139(500).zip ) it includes the Packet Driver.
File and Print Sharing you require Network Client 3.0 Client and Server
http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/dosclien.htm It will be difficult to have both running at the same time as Arachne needs around 550K base memory. Lantastic version 8.0 may be a better alternative.

Reply: (edit)Another solution is to setup a FTP LAN server, using basic html web pages to transfer files between PC's. EZNOS is best for DOS. See the last link above in the links section. This only requires Packet Drivers so can either run EZNOS or Arachne

Reply: (edit)I was only looking for one another the other, not internet and file sharing. I didn't know that the oem pack would have the packet drivers. I was looking for something for hours of my time that was right in front of my eyes. Thanks for pointing that out.
