I acquired a Toshiba satellite pro 410cdt, because the guy couldn't figure out how to complete hard disk reformatting. When I boot it up it runs memory check then beeps and reads
This BASIC was aborted,
because this machine has
no ROM BASIC.Use Toshiba's BASIC
I think I need a Toshiba companion Diskette or CBCD. If so do you know were I can get one? If not What do I do ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Frustrated

it should boot okay using an ordianry dos 6.22 bootdisk which you can download. Then just format the HD in the normal way.

hello, i just had the same problem on my toshiba 410cdt i erased the hard drive and wanted to install windows 98, only when i erased the hard drive it gave me the same error it gave you, the dos 6.22 doesnt work, neither does any boot disk of any kind. i had an extra hard drive that i happend to come across, so what i think you need to do is to get a copy of a toshiba start up disk, or maybe try the rom paq from toshibas website for the bios. anyhow, i just threw in another harddrive with windows 98 already installed on another toshiba and it works fine. hope you have the same luck, if not email me and i can look around also just in case my hd crashes or something. thanks, emily

Here's what I did to fix this problem.

Issue:Invalid Media Type reading drive C
Cause:
This can be caused by one of three following reasons:
The hard disk drive does not have a valid format.
The hard disk drive has been fdisked but not formatted.
The hard disk drive is bad.
Solution:The hard disk drive does not have a valid format.
If you are receiving this message when your computer boots it is likely that it is unable to read the format on the hard disk drive.
Boot from a bootable floppy diskette
Once at the A:\> attempt to type C: and press enter.
If you do not receive this error message type the following:A:
fdisk /mbr
Sys c:
Once you have received the message System Transferred reboot the computer and your issue should be resolved. If you receive the same Invalid Media Type reading type reading drive C: it is likely that the format on the hard disk drive is invalid and it is recommended that you re-format the hard disk drive. By typing the following after booting from a bootable floppy diskette:
Format c:
This will erase all of your information on the hard disk drive however will recreate the format and should allow your hard disk drive to be read again.
